Aluminium windows, bi-folds, sliding and French doors, supplied and fitted. Most of this work goes into extensions and conversions we are already building, which is the ideal way to do it — the opening is formed to suit the glazing rather than the glazing squeezed into whatever opening exists.

Bi-fold doors
Fold back to open the full width. Best where you genuinely use the garden as an extension of the room.
Sliding doors
Slimmer sightlines and a better view when closed. Usually the better choice in a North East climate.

What thermally broken means
Aluminium conducts heat readily, so a solid aluminium frame would carry warmth straight out of the building and run cold on the inside face. A thermal break is an insulating section set between the inner and outer halves of the frame to stop that.
Every unit we fit is thermally broken. It is the difference between modern aluminium and the 1980s frames people remember running with condensation.
Coastal and exposed sites
Along the Northumberland, North Tyneside and Sunderland coast, salt and driven rain are hard on fixings and finishes. Powder-coated aluminium handles that better than most alternatives, provided the fixings are specified to match — which is a detail worth asking any glazing company about before you buy.
Looking after your glazing
Wash the frames a couple of times a year, more if you are near the coast, and keep the drainage slots in the bottom of the frame clear. Lubricate the running gear on sliding and bi-fold doors annually — that is what wears, not the frame.

Common glazing questions
Strength. Aluminium carries more glass in a thinner frame, so you get noticeably more light through the same opening, and large sliding and bi-fold doors are only really practical in it. It costs more. On a small window the difference matters much less, and we will say so.
Modern aluminium is thermally broken — there is an insulating barrier between the outer and inner faces of the frame, which is what stops the cold bridging straight through. Early aluminium windows had no such thing, which is where the reputation came from.
Bi-folds open the whole width, so they suit a garden you spill straight out into. Sliders have far less frame when they are closed, so the view is better for the ten months of the year the doors are shut. In this climate, most people are happier with the slider.
