The Tyne Valley — Hexham, Corbridge, Riding Mill, Stocksfield, Wylam and Ovingham — has the largest properties and the tightest planning constraints on our patch, and it is where our barn conversion and stone repair work is concentrated. Corbridge and Hexham both have significant conservation area coverage, and parts of the valley sit within the Northumberland National Park or the North Pennines AONB, all of which control what you can do to an external elevation. Almost everything here is solid stone, which means lime mortar rather than cement and breathable insulation build-ups rather than modern wraps. It also means redundant agricultural buildings on good plots, which is the single most common enquiry we take from this part of the region.

It is a straight run west along the A69, so site visits are usually within a few days of your enquiry.
Much of Corbridge is, and so is a large part of central Hexham. In practice that controls external alterations, materials and anything visible from the street far more than it controls what happens at the rear. We will confirm which designations affect your specific property first.
With breathable materials. A solid stone wall takes on water and releases it again — if you wrap it in a build-up that stops it drying, the moisture simply goes somewhere worse. We specify breathable systems on solid walls as standard, which is why we ask about the wall construction before quoting insulation.
